For the first time in his Indian Premier League career, Sunil Narine is playing under the captaincy of a player under Gautam Gambhir. The West Indies star was one of the prime reasons behind Gambhir’s brilliant track record as skipper of the Kolkata Knight Riders.

The spinner made his IPL debut in 2012 and has not looked back since then. In his very maiden season, he picked up 24 wickets to fire Knight Riders to their maiden IPL title. Two years later, he was once again instrumental as Knight Riders won their second title.  In the new season, Narine is plying his trade for the same franchise but under a new captain. With Gautam Gambhir being signed up by Delhi Daredevils, the Knight Riders appointed Dinesh Karthik as their skipper.

In a recent interview, Narine spoke on his experience of playing under Karthik. The spinner said that he is enjoying his time with Karthik.

“It’s been a good experience. I think every captain has his own style. So it’s just about getting accustomed to it and try to give the captain whatever he needs at the point of time and be able to do it for the team and him as well,” he added.

The change of captains has not made much difference to Narine’s performance. He continues to be an important part of the franchise. In the ongoing season, he has taken 8 wickets in as many games in addition to scoring 161 runs.

The last two seasons have witnessed another facet of Narine’s game. The Knight Riders promoted him as an opener and the move paid off. Even this season, he scored a 17-ball fifty in the season-opener against Royal Challengers Bangalore.

When asked about the secret behind his batting, he said: “I don’t think there’s much of a secret.”

“It’s been a continuous effort in trying to bat a little more. So it’s showing on the field. Hopefully, I can continue with hard work and get more success as an opener or while batting down the order,” he added.

An avid cricket lover, I just love this game more than anything. Writing about cricket keeps me closer to the game.
