IPL 2018: Syed Kirmani feels Rishabh Pant and Sanju Samson need to be groomed more

Former Indian Cricket team wicket-keeper Syed Kirmani feels if young talents like Sanju Samson and Rishabh Pant have prosperous futures if groomed properly.

Meanwhile, the duo has been in great form both with bat and gloves in this edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). While Sanju has registered 391 runs, Pant amassed 684 runs in 14 games with a brilliant century and five fifties. The southpaw is also the current top-scorer of the tournament.

Praising their effort, Kirmani added that they will have to improve a lot. He also added that they need to keep more quality spinners to develop their skills.

“These two have been doing a great job but they have a lot to improve which will come only with experience. They should keep for quality spinners to gain more experience in different conditions and pitches,” Kirmani said.

They need proper grooming

The 88 Tests veteran feels both the cricketers need proper grooming in the domestic circuit for the long run. He also cited the importance of grooming and urged them not to get away with the fame.

“Sanju and Rishabh should be groomed in the domestic circuit. But it has to be seen in the long run. You cannot just consider the performance of one season. Then only will you know where they stand. The kind of phenomenal strokes Rishabh played in IPL, I don’t think he will be playing the same in Tests, four-day or 50-over matches,” he mentioned.

“Grooming is very important. It helps a player get experience and confidence. If they want to last long, they also have to keep their heads on their shoulders,” he added.

In conclusion, Kirmani said the MS Dhoni is the right man for the limited-overs and he should play as long as he wishes to.
