Riding on Rashid Khan’s magnificent all round show, Sunrisers Hyderabad ended their 4-match losing streak to beat Kolkata Knight Riders by 13 runs and set up a date with Chennai Super Kings in the final

Set a target of 175, Sunil Narine and Chris Lynn gave the Knight Riders an electric start. The duo added 43 runs off just 3 overs to set the tone for the chase. Two runs later, Siddarth Kaul broke the dangerous stand by sending back Narine who scored 26 off just 13.

The dismissal, however, did not affect Knight Riders’ momentum as Lynn and Nitish Rana kept the scoreboard ticking at a good pace. At the end of the powerplay, the scoreboard was reading 67 for 1. Both the batsmen were looking well set as Sunrisers were finding it tough to break the stand. The breakthrough finally came when Rana was run out in the ninth over after scoring 22. The Knight Riders were 93 for 2 after the first ten overs. On the very next delivery, Rashid Khan castled Robin Uthappa to put the match in balance. In the same over, Lynn and Dinesh Karthik hit a four each to help the Knight Riders reach the 100-run mark.

Shakib Al Hasan then castled the in-form Karthik cheaply to leave Knight Riders reeling at 108 for 4. On the same score, Rashid Khan accounted for Lynn to leave the home side in all sort of trouble. 10 runs later, the Afghan sensation dismissed the dangerous Andre Russell to all but seal Knight Riders’ fate. The equation was now down to 57 off the last 5 overs. It was too big a ask for the lower order as Knight Riders eventually finished on 161 for 9.

Earlier in the game, Rashid Khan’s whirlwind cameo helped Sunrisers recover from a poor slump in the middle overs and post a challenging 174 for 7.

Sent in to bat first, the Sunrisers were off to a brilliant start. Shikhar Dhawan and Wriddhiman Saha laid the foundation for a good total by adding 57 runs in seven overs. However, the game turned Knight Riders’ way after Dinesh Karthik introduced Kuldeep Yadav in the attack.

In his very over, the chinaman spinner accounted for Dhawan and the in-form Kane Williamson to put Knight Riders on top. Saha and Shakib Al Hasan then steadied the ship, helping Sunrisers reach the 10-over mark without suffering any further setback.

However, Piyush Chawla sent back a well-set Saha in the very next over to once again put the Sunrisers on the backfoot. With the spinners keeping things tight, Shakib and Deepak Hooda struggled to score freely. The Sunrisers reached the 100-run mark at the end of 14 overs. And just when it seemed the duo would start the attack, Shakib was run out in an unfortunate manner. Hooda’s straight shot hit the stumps at the non-striker’s end after the ball touched Kuldeep’s fingertips. The Bangladesh allrounder scored 28.

The Sunrisers kept on losing wickets at crucial junctures. Rashid Khan then played some big shots towards the end to help his side cross the 150-run mark. In the 19th over, he hit Shivam Mavi for two sixes and followed it up hitting a four and two sixes in the final over. His handy knock of 34 off just 10 helped the Sunrisers post a big total.
