Riding on Suryakumar Yadav’s fourth fifty of the season, Mumbai Indians scored 181 for 4 against Kolkata Knight Riders.

With their season on the line, Mumbai Indians needed a good start to put up a good total against the formidable Knight Riders and their openers gave them a flying start. Dinesh Karthik began the proceedings with Nitish Rana and it paid off. The part-timer conceded only one before Prasidh Krishna gave away 7 to give the visitors a good start. Suryakumar Yadav then hit Mitchell Johnson for two fours and a six in the third over to give the innings the early impetus. That over set the tone for the powerplay as Mumbai raced away to 56 for no loss in six overs. Evin Lewis was also timing the ball brilliantly from the other end.

Both the batsmen were looking in their elements as Mumbai’s innings was up and running. Andre Russell then gave Kolkata the much-needed breakthrough by dismissing his compatriot Lewis. The southpaw scored 43 off 28 and added 91 runs off 55 balls with Suryakumar. Mumbai entered the three-digit mark in the eleventh over. Suryakumar soon completed his fifty off 31 deliveries. Sunil Narine then accounted for the dangerous Rohit Sharma to deal a huge blow to the hosts. Andre Russell then sent back Suryakumar for 59 to reduce Mumbai to 127 for 3. At the end of the 15th over, Mumbai were 132 for 3 with both Pandya brothers – Hardik and Krunal in the middle.

However, Krunal, Mumbai’s hero in the last game, could not do much and departed after scoring 14.  Hardik and JP Duminy then shared an unbeaten stand of runs to guide Mumbai to a good total. Pandya scored 35 off 20 while Duminy remained unbeaten on 13 off 11.
