What a sensational piece of all-round performance it turned out to be from Afghanistan sensation Rashid Khan as Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) qualified for their second final in the Indian Premier League’s (IPL) history after beating the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) by 13 runs in the Qualifier second at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Friday night.

Nothing could have gone wrong for Rashid as he starred in all three departments of the game.

With the bat in hand, it was Rashid’s terrific knock of 34 of just 10 deliveries which propelled Hyderabad to 174 in their allotted 20 overs from a relatively precarious situation. They never looked like reaching 160 and to get 174 in a knockout clash from there on, was a bonus.

Well, it was sensational hitting by the leg-spinner. He targeted the two young pacers Shivam Mavi and Prasidh Krishna and smashed them for a couple of sixes each in the last two overs.

The flicked six over the square leg region was arguably the shot of the match. It was the much-needed momentum which Hyderabad got going into the second half of the match. KKR started off on a positive note with openers Chris Lynn and Sunil Narine got them off to a brisk start. Pace spearhead Bhuvneshwar Kumar was smashed all around the park by Narine.

However, the introduction of Rashid put the breaks on the KKR batsmen. It was magical stuff by Rashid as he bagged the crucial wickets of Chris Lynn, Robin Uthappa, and the dangerous Andre Russell.

Uthappa played a horrific shot. He went for a reverse sweep owing to the very first delivery he faced. He missed it completely and the ball went on to disturb the timbers.

Lynn and Russell were set up perfectly by the wily leg-spinner. Rashid bagged the wicket of the dangerman Russell in his last over and that was perhaps the final nail in the coffin.

In the last over Rashid claimed a couple of catches which eventually ended Kolkata’s resistance.

Following Rashid’s all-round performance, Bollywood star Varun Dhawan took to his Twitter handle and hailed the master at work.

“@rashidkhan_19 wow wow wow. Truly a magical spell of bowling a great ambassador for the sport and his country. The final is gonna be thrilling,” Varun wrote.
