IPL 2018: Virat Kohli Delighted After Making Anushka Sharma's Wish Come True

Updated - 04 Jan 2020, 03:10 PM

Royal Challengers Bangalore had their task cut when they took on Kings XI Punjab on Monday in a must-win clash. A defeat would have ended their hopes of making it to the playoffs. The Royal Challengers, fresh off their triumph over Delhi Daredevils, had not won two back-to-back IPL games since 2016.

But just before the game, they got a motivational message from none other than Anushka Sharma and it eventually worked. Wife of Royal Challengers skipper Virat Kohli, Anushka took to Twitter to post a picture of herself wearinga t-shirt with Kohli’s name and jersey number written on it. She tweeted:

“Come on boys❤??”

And the Royal Challengers made sure that they do not let their captain’s wife down. The Bangalore-based outfit thumped Kings XI Punjab by 10 wickets to keep their playoff hopes alive.

Virat Kohli’s decision to bowl first on a batting paradise was totally justified by his bowlers. Led by Umesh Yadav’s 3-wicket haul, the Royal Challengers bowled out Kings XI for a paltry total of 88 despite KL Rahul and Chris Gayle adding 88 runs for the first wickets.

In reply, Royal Challengers chased down the total without losing a wicket in just 8.1 overs. Parthiv Patel and Virat Kohli came out all guns blazing. By the time the third over ended, the scoreboard was reading 36 with both the batsmen taking the attack to the cleaners. Parthiv Patel then hit Mohit Sharma for three fours in the fifth over to bring up the team’s fifty. The Royal Challengers eventually reached the target in the ninth over with all the ten wickets intact. Kohl remained unbeaten on 48 while Parthiv remained unbeaten on 40.

And as soon as the game ended, Kohli took to Twitter to reply to Anushka’s message, writing:

“Yes my love. Indeed we arrived today ?❤”
