So fairy-tales do exist. Not may had predicted a good season for Chennai Super Kings in their comeback season let alone winning the title. The Super Kings were returning to the league after a two-year absence and on Sunday (May 27), they showed why they are the most feared and successful team in the history of the tournament.
The MS Dhoni-led side absolutely thrashed Sunrisers Hyderabad in the final to cap off their comeback season in a stunning manner. From the toss till Ambati Rayudu’s winning four, almost everything went Super Kings’ way as they decimated the Sunrisers by 8 wickets. The architect of the win was none other than their opening batsman Shane Watson.
The hard-hitting allrounder scored an unbeaten ton to help the Super Kings chase down 179 with utmost ease. It was a knock of highest quality as the veteran showed his vast wealth of experience to ace the chase. The hard-hitting batsman started his innings in an unusual manner. It took him an incredible 11 balls to open his account. However, it was just the calm before the storm. He completed his fifty off 32 balls and then reached his ton off just 51 balls. In the end, he remained unbeaten on 117. His knock came off just 57 balls and was studded with 11 fours and 8 sixes as Super Kings reached home in the 19th over.
The cricketing world has been showering praise over Watson since the knock. And former India batsman Virender Sehwag also joined the bandwagon. He first thanked Shane Watson by writing Nandri, which means Thank you in Tamil before congratulating the Super Kings.
“Nandri Watson! Stand and deliver!”
