The penultimate encounter of the round-robin stage of the Indian Premier League (IPL) witnessed Delhi Daredevils (DD) finish off their campaign on a high note, as they spoiled Mumbai Indians (MI) party by defeating them by 11 runs.

Rishabh Pant was responsible for setting up Delhi win as he notched up yet another half-century, snatching the Orange Cap from Kane Williamson.

After Pant’s dismissal, Vijay Shankar took charge and provided the finishing touch which took the score above 170.

Indians went off to a terrific start with the onslaught of Evin Lewis, before Amit Mishra was brought into the attack.

The wily leg-spinner Mishra literally hammered the final nail in Mumbai’s coffin as he managed to pick up three wickets, conceding only 19 in his quota of four overs.

Happy with my performance and the win: Mishra

As a result, Mishra also bagged the Man of the Match title for his exceptional spell.

While speaking to Sanjay Manjrekar, the former Indian international revealed that he was depressed after being dropped post-Delhi’s first match in the competition.

I think I bowled better in the previous seasons. After being dropped featuring in just one match, I was a bit depressed,” replied Mishra, when asked to compare his performance this season with the previous ones.

But, I continued to work hard and believe in my abilities to come back hard. I know what kind of batsmen are coming up, so had to plan accordingly. Happy with my performance and the win. Can’t say much beyond that,” added Mishra.

Manjrekar then asked about his attacking ploy to keep tossing the ball up in a Twenty20 match.

Amit Mishra claimed he always knew that he would be successful in clinching wickets, with the help of his flight.

Was aware that the wicket at Kotla would assists spin due to its slow nature. So, I knew that I had to toss the ball up, not every ball, searching for wickets while pressing for the win,” concluded Amit Mishra.
