The Royal Derby which unfolded at the Pink City in Jaipur saw the men in blue dominate with both bat and ball. Shreyas Gopal was responsible for single-handedly running through the RCB middle order, with the help of his guile and deception, and eventually helped RR win the game by 30 runs.
Which meant Rajasthan Royals went on to clinch a couple of crucial points and remain in the hunt for playoffs?
Also, the Karnataka leggie bagged the essential wickets of Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers during the reverse fixture at Bengaluru.
Gopal ended with figures of 4-16, removing the likes of AB de Villiers, Mandeep Singh, Colin de Grandhomme and Moeen Ali. He then ended up with the best figures by an uncapped spinner in the history of IPL.
During the post-match interview, Gopal went on to describe all his dismissals chronologically.
Here’s a look at the video
“Obviously feels great. We knew this game was a pressure game for us. Actually both the teams. It feels even better than the team needed me and I performed. I would not have been feeling half as better had the team lost,” Shreyas Gopal commented after receiving his man of the match title.
After claiming the wicket of ABD, the surprise on Gopal’s face was quite visible.
When asked about his celebration, Gopal mentioned that one could not plan the wicket of someone like Mr. 360.
“You can never have a set plan for someone like ABD. So, I was a bit shocked. There was a little bit of help from the wicket. There was a little bit of spin. I kept it at the wickets and relied on my googly and flipper as much as I could,” concluded Gopal.
