The 39th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) witnessed a clash between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Royal Challengers Bangalore at the orange army’s fortress at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad.
As it turned out, captain Kane Williamson powered his side towards a narrow five-run win, on the back of their dominant bowling line up in the tournament.
It was the captain himself who set up SRH’s outing with a priceless half-century on a track challenging to score. Despite their reputation of leaking boundaries, RCB bowlers Mohammed Siraj and Tim Southee clinched three wickets each to put a lid on SRH’s scoring rate.

Chasing 148, RCB started off perfectly in the powerplays but lost their way in the middle overs, after the loss of Virat Kohli’s wicket.
Even after the finishing blows from Colin de Grandhomme, RCB fell short of the target by just five runs, as Sunrisers Hyderabad almost confirm their place in the playoffs with 16 points.
“We’re playing on some very tough surfaces. We were aiming for 150, and we were thereabouts. Our fielding was probably a bit sloppy. Could have operated better. At the same time, good to come away with the win,” suggested Kane Williamson during the post-match presentation.
Bhuvi was world class: Williamson
Williamson’s side came back at the death yet again due to the spirited bowling combo of Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Siddharth Kaul who kept nailing the blockhole.
SRH’s captain also had a word or two about his two aces death bowlers.
“Bhuvi was world class. They’ve both done it extremely well for a long time. At the moment it’s tough going, but as a team, we’re getting enough,” concluded Kane Williamson.
