Rohit Sharma-led Mumbai Indians’ hopes of making it to the playoffs took a serious beating tonight.

The men in red and gold finally got back to winning ways, as Royal Challengers Bangalore snatched a 14-run win at their home ground.

Post the game, Rohit expressed his disappointment at not being able to chase down the par score.

Umesh Yadav was at his best with the new ball, as Mumbai lost three wickets in the powerplay. The visitors never really recovered from the blow, as a fighting fifty from Hardik Pandya failed to take his side over the finishing line.

“Disappointing to be on the losing side. Didn’t play smart cricket and losing wickets in the Powerplay doesn’t help. Wasn’t an easy wicket and we failed to keep the scoreboard ticking.” he said

Rohit credits RCB bowlers

The Mumbai Indians skipper also credited the Bangalore bowlers for their impressive performance. He is aware of the fact that his side will now have to win all of their remaining games to make it to the playoffs.

“Credit to RCB bowlers, kept us guessing all the time. We would’ve taken 167 at the start of the day, but we could’ve restricted them for 10-15 runs less. Brendon and Virat’s knock was critical. We keep making those silly mistakes, which really shouldn’t happen. Only ourselves to blame. I think we can still qualify to the Playoffs. We can’t lose hope.” Rohit added.

It was a much-needed win for the Bangalore side, as they were floating at the bottom of the points table along with Delhi Daredevils.

The men in blue though now find themselves in trouble. Even though the side has a history of being slow starters, Rohit’s men, who are the three times IPL champion, will have their task cut out.
