Mumbai Indians registered a much-needed victory against the Kings XI Punjab in the 34th match of Vivo IPL 11 to keep their hopes alive in the tournament. They still to win the remaining 5 games to qualify. They were in a similar sort of a position in 2014 and eventually qualified for the playoffs when all hopes were done and dusted. The three-time champions will like to believe that there is still a chance of a repeat of 2014. The star of the match was Krunal Pandya and Suryakumar Yadav.

Needing a competitive 175 to win on a small ground in Indore, Mumbai got off to a decent start. However, the run rate wasn’t as high as they would have liked. Suryakumar Yadav continued his rich vein of form and scored yet another half-century. He smashed 6 fours and 3 sixes during his knock of 57 of just 42 deliveries. He builds the foundation for a steady chase but was eventually dismissed by Marcus Stonis.

Mumbai needed 42 of the last 19 deliveries. Rohit Sharma struck a couple of sixes of Mujeeb-ur-Rahman to get the equation down to 36 of the last 3. Krunal Pandya played a terrific hand and smashed 20 runs of Marcus Stoinis in the 18th over. That over totally turned the scales in favour of Mumbai. They required just 16 to win from the last two.

Krunal Pandya finished of the chase in the 19th over as he smashed 16 runs. Meanwhile, earlier in the day it was a fifty from the blade of Chris Gayle which helped Punjab register 174 on the board. IIt was a very important match for Yuvraj Singh who has been totally out of runs in the tournament so far. That has also resulted in him getting dropped from the team on a couple of occasions.

Yuvraj’s ordinary knock

Yet again he played quite an ordinary innings before getting dismissed via a run-out. He made a run a ball 14. The stylish southpaw smashed a sensational six of Krunal Pandya in his very first delivery but couldn’t quite carry on from his start.
