Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) secured their third victory in the ongoing IPL season after beating Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on Sunday (21st April) night at M Chinnaswamy Stadium (Bengaluru).

After the CSK captain MS Dhoni decided to field first, RCB managed to score 161/7 (20 overs). In reply, CSK just failed to win that match after they were restricted to 160/8 (20 overs).

CSK – 160/8 in 20 overs (MS Dhoni 84*, Ambati Rayudu 29; Dale Steyn 2/29)

i) It was the only second time when RCB won a match by just one run. On 9th May 2016, RCB first time won by just one run and that was against Kings XI Punjab at Mohali.

ii) Since May 2014, it was the first victory for RCB against CSK. Before this victory, their previous win against CSK was on 18th May 2014 at Ranchi. The Bangalore franchise suffered seven consecutive defeats against CSK before their latest victory.

i) It was the 150th IPL match for AB de Villiers. The former Proteas cricketer is the first overseas and 13 overall cricketer to play 150 or more IPL matches.

ii) The left-handed opening batsman Parthiv Patel has hit four half-centuries for RCB. Among the left-handed batsmen in RCB, only Chris Gayle (26 times) has played more 50+ scores than Parthiv Patel. During this match, Parthiv Patel surpassed Moeen Ali and Yuvraj Singh (both played three times 50+ scores for this side).

i) MS Dhoni has hit 203 IPL sixes. He is the first Indian batsman and third overall batsman to hit 200 or more IPL sixes. Chris Gayle (323 sixes) and AB de Villiers (204 sixes) were the first two batsmen to hit 200 IPL sixes.

ii) MS Dhoni has hit 173 IPL sixes for CSK which are the most number of IPL sixes by a CSK batsman. During this match, MS Dhoni surpassed Suresh Raina who has hit 167 IPL sixes for CSK.

iii) MS Dhoni has scored 4,040 runs as an IPL captain. He is the first IPL captain to score 4,000 runs.

iv) MS Dhoni is the most T20 run-scorer against RCB as he has scored 805 T20 runs against RCB. David Warner is in the next position who has scored 792 T20 runs against RCB.

v) In this match, MS Dhoni was not out on 84 runs. It is the highest individual score during a match between RCB and CSK at M Chinnaswamy Stadium (Bengaluru). Ambati Rayudu (CSK) was the previous record holder with 82 runs (25th April 2018).
