Delhi Capitals (DC), who made a makeover before the Indian Premier League (IPL) auctions, have roped in the service of fiery South African batsman Colin Ingram for IPL 2019. Listed in the base price of Rs 2 crores, Ingram attracted intense bidding from Delhi and Sunirisers Hyderabad. Eventually, Delhi Capitals snatched Colin Ingram from the jaws of Sunrisers Hyderabad for a hefty sum of Rs 6.40 crores.
Previously, the southpaw was a part of the Delhi Capitals, then Daredevils, in 2011. The left-handed batsman went on to play only three matches in which could just score 21 runs with a top score of 13. The 33-year-old veteran has a truckload of experience in this format, having played 202 matches and scoring 5186 runs with three centuries and as many as 32 half-centuries.
The departure of Jason Roy and the retirement of Gautam Gambhir left a gaping hole at the top of the order for Delhi, but the astute acquisition of seasoned opener Shikhar Dhawan is a world-class replacement. In addition to Dhawan, the inclusion of Colin Ingram will undoubtedly bolster their top-order.
Meanwhile, Delhi, who finished in the eighth spot last season, changed their franchise name in pursuit to change their fortune. They removed Daredevils from the name only to add Capitals to their name. Moreover, they have also included Mohammad Kaif along with head coach Ricky Ponting to guide the team.
