IPL 2019: Veteran J&K Cricketer Mithun Manhas Appointed RCB's Assistant Coach

Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) have made a couple of changes to their coaching staff ahead of the IPL 2019 season. Gary Kirsten, the former South African got appointed as the franchise’s head coach. Alongside him, Ashish Nehra joined the camp as the bowling coach. To boost their chances of lifting the trophy for the first time, RCB has recently picked veteran J&K cricketer, Mithun Manhas as their assistant coach. Meanwhile, the Bangalore-based franchise began their conditioning camp at the NCA a few days back.
Experienced Manhas to boost RCB’s confidence
Mithun Manhas is a known name in the Indian cricketing circle. He is among the top four run-scorers in India’s first-class cricket – hitting 8554 runs; only behind Wasim Jaffer (11,225), Amol Muzumdar (9202) and Devendra Bundela (9201). Not only this, but the right-handed batsman had also represented various IPL sides in his seven-year career in the league, including the three-time IPL champions, Chennai Super Kings on more than one occasion. Also, he wore Pune Warriors India and Delhi Daredevils jersey.
Even in the coaching staff, he has earned some distinction. In the past, he was Kings XI Punjab’s assistant coach and had also coached Bangladesh’s U-19 team. Apart from this, he had mentored and played at the same time for the J&K side in Ranji Trophy 2016-17 season.
Manhas, who had played for the Delhi Ranji Team for over a decade; had helped North Zone lift the Deodhar Trophy with a back-to-back hundred as the stand-in skipper in the absence of injured Dinesh Mongia.

Speaking to EXCELSIOR, the former Ranji great said he is looking forward to working with Gary, Nehra and the India and RCB captain, Virat Kohli. He said,
“We are looking forward to winning the IPL title this season,” Manhas added.
The twelfth edition of the IPL will begin on March 23rd.
