Kings XI Punjab were once again involved in a last-over thriller, this time in a low-scoring contest, where they trumped Sunrisers Hyderabad. Arshdeep Singh, Punjab’s left-arm medium-pacer in the post-match conference has talked about his plans while bowling to the SRH batsmen.
Batting first, Punjab made a below-par 126 as SRH bowlers tied their batsman throughout the innings. However, SRH batters, especially their middle-order succumbed to Punjab bowling once David Warner and Jonny Bairstow got out. SRH collapsed from 100/3 to 114 all out.
We saw an opportunity for the win and tried our best: Arshdeep Singh
Panic ensued in the SRH camp once Vijay Shakar got out to Arshdeep Singh. The left-arm pacer has been brilliant throughout the tournament with his cutters and slower balls. Against Hyderabad as well, his plan was to bowl slower balls into the pitch and demand the batsman to hit on the bigger side of the ground. Arshdeep also thanked the management for trusting him with death overs duty and said that they are now starting to gain momentum with four consecutive victories.
“We saw an opportunity for the win and tried our best and thankfully, it went our way. The plan was to bowl it into the wicket and bowl as many slower balls and it worked. Arshdeep said at the post-match press conference.
“I have been backed up really well by the management and good that we are starting to get some momentum as a team. The plan was to keep it simple and let them hit on the bigger side and it worked.”
“We are not looking that far and taking it game by game. After we won that Super Over, the belief has been great in squad. We believe that we can do anything that is needed for the team. We just stuck to our plans and it said off. Ravi has been really exceptional for us. He has been bowling really well. The main thing is that his overs are very economical. And when he gets a chance, he gives us a major breakthrough,” Arshdeep added.
Punjab will take on Kolkata on Monday in Sharjah, a match that would prove very crucial for both teams. Punjab now sits at the fifth spot, just below Kolkata in the IPL 2020 points table.
