Former India cricketer, Gautam Gambhir has once again opined on Dinesh Karthik’s decision to leave captaincy mid-season handing it over to Eoin Morgan. On October 16th, Eoin Morgan came out at the toss and said that it was actually Karthik’s decision to leave captaincy as the wicket-keeper wanted to focus more on his batting.
Dinesh Karthik has had an underwhelming season with the bat. He has scored 148 runs in 12 matches at an average of 13 and a strike rate of 120 with a solitary half-century. After leaving captaincy, Karthik still hasn’t got significant runs; scores of 4, 29*,4,3, and 0 indicate the same.

Sometimes it’s good when you take up responsibilities: Gautam Gambhir
Ahead of KKR‘s important clash with CSK, Gautam Gambhir has talked about the mindset of Karthik. He emphasized on the fact that Karthik left captaincy to focus on his batting, but that hasn’t produced any fruitful results for Karthik. Gambhir says it would have been better if the keeper had taken responsibilities.
Then the left-hander talks about how he overcame his poor form in the 2014 IPL. He had three ducks in a row, but it was the captaincy which gave him confidence and helped him get back in form.
Talking with Cricket.com, Gautam Gambhir said, “It just shows the mindset. You left captaincy because you wanted to concentrate on batting, but then it hasn’t worked, so probably sometimes it’s good when you take up responsibilities. What I’ve realised when I was through a worse phase in 2014. I got three ducks in a row when we started the tournament. It was captaincy that helped me that I could get back into form.

The two-time IPL winning skipper talked about the mentality when he was KKR captain. He wanted to win games for his team, as a captain, and as a batsman. It helped his decision making.
“And the reason why because when I was not batting, I was thinking about how to make the team win through my captaincy and the decision making. But when you’re not captaining, you’re thinking even more about your batting.”
Meanwhile, KKR is at the fifth spot in the points table and will take on CSK in an important encounter on Thursday.
