Kings XI Punjab have secured the services of West Indies star Sheldon Cottrell for the upcoming season of IPL. The pacer, who had a base price of INR 50 lakh, saw Kings XI Punjab buy him for a whopping amount of INR 8.5 crore after seeing off competition from Rajasthan Royals and Delhi Capitals.
Sheldon Cottrell has already become a fan favourite across the world due to his famous salute send-off. The West Indies pacer marches and then salutes to the pavilion followed by opening his arms while looking upwards as he celebrates his wickets. His celebration is a tribute to the Jamaican Defence Force Soldier as he himself was a part of the force before making it big in cricket.
Sheldon Cottrell is also having a good year with the ball. The left-arm pacer impressed one and all with his performance in this year’s World Cup. He finished the competition as West Indies’ highest wicket-taker, picking up 12 wickets in 9 games. He also had a fine outing in the T20I series against Indies earlier this month.
Sheldon Cottrell managed to show that he has the pace, variations and attitude to do well with white-ball cricket. He has an economy rate of 7.46 over 83 T20 matches.
