Glenn Maxwell needs no introduction. The hard-hitting batsman from Australia is one of the most dangerous batsmen in the world from quite some time now and has already proved himself in the IPL too. However, consistency has always been the problem for him. He started his journey in IPL in 2012 when Delhi Capitals (then Delhi Daredevils) signed him as a replacement player for Travis Birt who withdrew from the squad.

In his maiden season, Glenn Maxwell played a couple of games and could not leave his mark. But it did not stop him from becoming the most expensive player at the 2013 IPL auction as Mumbai Indians bought him for 1 million US dollars. However, he failed to justify his price tag and played just three games in which he scored 36 runs.

Unsurprisingly, Mumbai Indians released him and he was bought by Kings XI Punjab in 2014. And that season turned out to be Glenn Maxwell’s best season in IPL so far.In his team’s opening match against Chennai Super Kings, he scored 95 runs from 43 balls to chase down a target of 206 in 18.5 overs.

In the second match against Rajasthan Royals, he hit 89 off 45 balls with eight fours and six sixes. In the third match, Maxwell scored 95 runs from 43 balls with 9 sixes and 5 fours against Sunrisers Hyderabad and was awarded Man of the Match for the third time in a row. He continued his form for the rest of the competition, helping Kings XI Punjab making it to the IPL final for the first time. Overall, he scored 552 runs in 16 games in 2014.

But since then, Maxwell has failed to live up to the expectations. In 2018 season, he was a part of Delhi Capitals camp and managed to score just 169 runs in 12 games. In 2019, he was one of the few Australian players who pulled out of the IPL in order to stay fit and fresh for the World Cup.

Talking about the auction, Glenn Maxwell did cause a bidding war as his former teams Kings XI Punjab and Delhi Capitals went all out for him. And after a fierce bidding war, he was eventually bought up by Kings XI Punjab for INR 10.75 crore.
