Before the auction, they had released some big names like Chris Lynn, Robin Uthappa, Piyush Chawla, Carlos Brathwaite as they let go a total of ten players. Later, they had roped in Mumbai batsman Siddhesh Lad from Mumbai Indians during the trade window.

In the auction, they started by signing up England’s ODI and T20I captain Eoin Morgan. The Knight Riders then all out to secure the services of Australia pace spearhead Pat Cummins who is the leading Test wicket-taker this year. The Kolkata-based outfit spent a whopping amount of INR 15.5 crore to make Cummins the costliest overseas player of all time. They also roped in Rahul Tripathi, Tom Banton and Nikhil Naik to bolster their batting.
