Royal Challengers Bangalore opener Devdutt Padikkal has very much justified the hype surrounding him by scoring an impressive fifty on his IPL debut in the ongoing game against Sunrisers Hyderabad. The 20-year old from Karnataka was so impressive that he made his opening partner and one of world’s best white-ball players Aaron Finch look ordinary.
By the time, he was castled by Vijay Shankar in the 11th over, he scored 56 off 42 balls. His impressive innings was studded with 8 fours. In the process, he also became the first Indian since 2010 to score a fifty on his IPL debut. His cover drives were a treat to watch and made many compare him with the legendary Yuvraj Singh.

While Finch was struggling to get going on the other end, Devdutt Padikkal was looking at his fluent best. He opened his arms by slamming Sandeep Sharma for two fours in the second over before hitting T Natarajan for three boundaries in the fourth over.
The likes of Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Mitchell Marsh conceded boundaries against the southpaw too. He eventually reached his fifty off 36 balls before being sent back by Shankar. And as he was taking the SRH bowlers to the cleaners, the cricket fraternity was lavishing praise on him.
Here is how Twitter reacted to Devdutt Padikkal’s innings:
Last IPL everyone thought Shivam Dube played like a young Yuvraj Singh. Perhaps, they should have waited a year longer for another RCB player.

Outstanding debut from young Padikkal. Can see why there was so much hype about him. Wish him well, he is exciting. Loved the on-side pick-up shot and the drive over mid-off

In all three matches so far, an Indian batsman has top scored. This Padikkal guy looks really promising talent. Hopefully not a one match wonder like we have seen some in earlier seasons.

Padikkal has arrived into #<!---->I<!---->P<!---->L<!---->2<!---->0<!---->2<!---->0 with a fifty from just 36 balls including 8 fours. What a knock on his IPL debut, this kid has been doing wonders for Karnataka in last domestic season and continuing for RCB. p<!---->i<!---->c<!---->.<!---->t<!---->w<!---->i<!---->t<!---->t<!---->e<!---->r<!---->.<!---->c<!---->o<!---->m<!---->/<!---->n<!---->z<!---->m<!---->x<!---->k<!---->a<!---->L<!---->A<!---->G<!---->v

Devdutt Padikkal became a household name last year after taking the domestic arena by storm. He finished as the top-scorer in both the 50-over Vijay Hazare Trophy and the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy last season. In the latter, the 20-year-old opener scored 580 runs at a strike rate of 175.75 and struck a 50-plus score every two innings on average
