Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) pacer Umran Malik has made quite a noise for himself in the ongoing IPL 2022 with his ability to combine speed and take wickets. And his father Abdul Rashid has revealed some game-changing advice Umran received from MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli.
In an exclusive interview with Times of India, Abdul Rashid revealed how he was surrounded by fellow shopkeepers in Jammu after Umran picked three wickets in the final over without giving a run in the IPL match between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Punjab Kings.
Umran has played 7 matches in the tournament so far and has bagged 10 wickets. Incredibly over 90% of his deliveries have been bowled at over 140 kmph.
“Umran has made me popular in the market and in fact in Jammu overall. Everyone greets me saying ‘adaab’ in the market. I am really proud of my son. Umran was adamant that he wanted to become a fast bowler.
“He used to run hard and do that for a long time. I knew he was determined. He used to practice at the Science College in Jammu with wet tennis balls.
“He used to take a long run up and bowl as fast as possible. He used to dip the tennis ball in water and then bowl,” Rashid further told TimesofIndia.com from Jammu.
Umran made his T20 debut in the 2021 edition of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, for Jammu and Kashmir. He made his List-A debut in the Vijay Hazare Trophy a month after that. He also made his List A debut for India A vs South Africa A in November last year.
MS Dhoni And Virat Kohli Have Told Umran Malik That He Is The Future Of Indian Cricket: Abdul Rashid
Umran’s father also revealed that the pacer has been receiving sane advice from some of the most experienced Indian and international cricketers in the Indian Premier League. This included Indian legends Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni.
“Umran discussed some of those things with me. MS Dhoni is a legend of the game. Virat Kohli is also a great cricketer. Umran met both of them.
“They have told Umran that he is the future of Indian cricket. When Umran called me to share this with me, he was extremely happy. He was elated after listening to those golden words from the two legends of the game,” Abdul said.
SRH was impressed with Umran Malik who was drafted into the team in IPL 2021 as an injury replacement for T Natarajan. They decided to retain him for INR 4 crores ahead of IPL 2022 auction.
