Former New Zealand spinner Daniel Vettori has accepted the end of his coaching tenure with the Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). He has left his job with grace. He supported the verdict of the owner of the franchise wholeheartedly.

Vettori described the verdict as “a pragmatic decision that I fully understand. Two years of poor results and time for a change,” the Herald quoted Vettori as saying.

“I was out of contract, also. Five years is a great run for a coach. Loved my time there,” Vettori added.

It was a former South African opener and a World Cup-winning coach with Team India, Gary Kristen, who was appointed as the head coach of the Bangalore franchise.

The franchise has never managed to realise their potential. They haven’t won any tournament in 11 attempts. The Bengaluru-based franchise reached the final thrice. However, they failed to get past the final frontier.

Daniel Vettori fully understands the decision taken by RCB:

Bangalore went on to finish at the bottom half of the points table in the 2018 edition of the tournament. They have themselves a chance of qualifying for the playoffs with some inspiring performances in the business end of the group stages.

However, they lost their final group game to Rajasthan Royals (RR) to again miss out on a playoffs berth.

For yet another time Bangalore had some great players on their side. Virat Kohli is the RCB Captain. They also had the likes of AB de Villiers, De Kock, Moeen Ali, Brendon McCullum, Tim Southee, Corey Anderson and Colin de Grandhomme.

Meanwhile, Bangalore finished seventh and third under Vettori in 2014 and 2015. Moreover, the franchise had a good time under him.

As per reliable sources, it was learned that Vettori had developed an excellent working relationship with Kohli during the five seasons he was in charge of the franchise.

Daniel Vettori also played as a player and captain Bangalore in the earlier editions. In a statement released by IPL franchise RCB, chairman Sanjeev Churiwala said that it was a great eight-year journey with Vettori.
