The last 12 months have been fabulous for India’s ever enthralling opener Shikhar Dhawan. The elegant southpaw has been on a prolific run-making spree across all formats of the game and be it in red-ball cricket, or in T20’s, Dhawan has been right at the top.

In the recently-concluded season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) as well, Dhawan was instrumental in taking the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) to the grand finale in Mumbai.

The Delhi opener then carried on his rich vein of form against Test cricket’s latest entrants, Afghanistan, in the historic Test at Bangalore.

Becoming the first Indian to amass a century before lunch on an opening day. Dhawan tore into the Afghan bowling line-up.

So much so, the southpaw just didn’t stop there as he began his tour of Europe with a mighty fine display against Ireland at Dublin in the first T20I.

Taking off from the very offset, Dhawan played a serene knock of 74. It simultaneously provided a solid base for the men in blue. En route his knock, the hard-hitting opener became the sixth Indian batsman to get to 6,000 T20 career runs.

Moreover, the charts for the most T20 career runs by an Indian, is headed by Suresh Raina, who has a total of 7,833 runs across an illustrious career.

A bulk of these runs have come up during the IPL while turning out for the three-time champions, Chennai Super Kings (CSK).

Just trailing Raina and second on the list is India’s current skipper, Virat Kohli. He has been a force to reckon with in the IPL. His international numbers are even better, having been India’s best ever batsmen in the format.

With 7,413 runs, third on the list is an opening partner of Shikhar Dhawan, Rohit Sharma. The Mumbaikar led the IPL franchise Mumbai Indians, Rohit Sharma.

Also, the right-handed batter Rohit has batted at nearly all positions. But he has found great success as an opener. Rohit’s knock of 97 in the opening T20I against Ireland was a treat to watch.
