Though every department of Indian National Cricket Team looking rock solid ahead of the ICC World Cup 2019, the major query still remained the same. Well, I won’t let you think about it for a long time…!!! It is the problem of a number 4 batsman for the upcoming grand event. There are quite a few options in the hand for the Indian management with Ambati Rayudu, Virat Kohli, Dhoni all being able to play at that slot.

With every single game, the debates for the number 4 position in the Indian National Cricket Team is mounting high. Recently, Ravi Shastri quoted that Virat Kohli might get to bat at number 4 for the team thus letting either KL Rahul or Ambati Rayudu play at number 3 slot.

Ambati Rayudu lost his Midas Touch In The Recent games:

However, Ambati Rayudu pressed his case further to stick at number 4 for the team with a scintillating century in the final ODI of the series against New Zealand. However, it isn’t the same for Rayudu anymore, he failed to make his mark in the series against Australia in Indian Conditions.

With scores of 13, 18 and 2 in the first three ODIs in the ongoing ODI series against Australia, Rayudu gave a lot to ponder for the Indian side ahead of the grand event. Regarding the same, they left him for the fourth ODI of the series thus asking the Indian skipper Virat Kohli to bat at number 4. In between, KL Rahul played at number 3.

The Indian skipper got a quality batting average at number 4 for the team. Though the numbers at third position look astounding, the number 4 figures also look quite dominating for Virat Kohli. He excelled in both the positions to perfection.

Virat Kohli could take the role of the number 4:

Recently, Virat Kohli quoted that he is not a new guest to the number 4 slot, as he did that quite a few times for the team. He believes that he can play his natural game either at number 3 or number 4, as it demands the same set of skills.

The statement from Virat Kohli further backs the call of Ravi Shastri to bat him at number 4. If that is going to happen in the grand event, the probable candidate to lose out a place in the side would be Ambati Rayudu. With KL Rahul finding his form, Rayudu’s dip in the form would see him warming the bench.

Probably, India would stick with KL Rahul for the final ODI of the series against Australia as well. It means that Rayudu is done with his ODI stint ahead of the grand event. The only best way, which he can utilise to see him in the playing XI in the ICC event would be his form in the Indian Premier League 2019.
