India’s tall and robust fast bowler, Ishant Sharma has opened up on his experience in county cricket and the key factor that led to his move in the competition.
In an interview with Cricbuzz, Ishant has revealed certain aspects of his life that have been behind the curtains all this while.
Ishant has been one of the most improved fast bowlers in world cricket in recent times. He has worked a lot on his line, length, and speed and has arisen as a deadly and fearsome pacer.
Since the late 19th century, there have been two county championship competitions played at different levels: the County Championship, a first-class competition which currently involves eighteen first-class county clubs among which seventeen are English and one is from Wales; and the Minor Counties Championship, which currently involves nineteen English county clubs and one club that represents several Welsh counties.
On 15 February 2018, it was officially announced that Ishant Sharma will join Sussex CCC for the first two months of the 2018 county season, available from 4 April to 4 June 2018, thus making him the 9th Indian to play for Sussex.
Ishant Sharma Reveals Key Reason Behind Move To County
Speaking to Cricbuzz, Ishant said, “Not getting picked in the IPL was a big factor. You see your team playing in the IPL and you sit at home and do nothing, that in itself creates a pressurizing situation. You get more tortured mentally. So, I decided that even if I didn’t get picked in the IPL, I should go and play county cricket.”
Learned To Bowl The Good Length Ball In County Cricket: Ishant Sharma
“Everyone used to tell me to bowl further ahead on the pitch. But, I learned to bowl further when I played county cricket. The good length bowl is a lot quicker and it can be learned through county cricket only,” Ishant added.
During India’s tour of England 2014, Ishant Sharma produced one of the most memorable spells in the history of Indian fast bowling by taking a seven-wicket haul against England which helped India to win the test at Lords after 28 years. It was a spell of hostile fast-bowling.
