Ishant Sharma Admits His Wife Being The Proudest After Winning The Arjuna Award

Indian fast bowler Ishant Sharma became the recipient of the prestigious Arjuna Award recently having spent 13 years in international cricket. Ishant Sharma is one of the most improved fast bowlers in India’s ranks and currently leads the pace attack of their Test team. The 31-year old pace bowler conceded that the honour he received is one of the best moments for his family.

Ishant Sharma was amongst the 27 sportspersons nominated for Arjuna Award as part of the National Sports Award 2020. Along with Ishant, Deepti Sharma was the only other cricketer being the contender for the same. His teammate Rohit Sharma snapped Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award, the nation’s highest sporting honour.

Ishant Sharma admitted that when he knew he is going to receive the award, he felt glad and proud of himself. He added that it was a testament to his hard work for the last 13 years and is a proud moment for his family too. The Delhi-born cricketer continued saying that his wife felt the proudest since more than himself, she thinks her husband deserved it.

When I got to know that I will receive the Arjuna award, I was happy and very proud of myself. For the last 13 years, I did a lot of hard work. It is a proud moment for me and my family. More than me, my wife is really proud of me because more than me she is the one who really thinks I should get that award,” Ishant said  in a video released by BCCI.tv.

India’s fast bowling attack has impressed the most in recent years and Ishant revealed their mindset. The 97-Test veteran highlighted that they are always looking to win the game and play according to the situation. The former number one Test team plan for every batsman and try to implement the same on the field.

The mindset of team India’s bowling is that we always think about how to win a game. That is the most important priority for us. We try to read the situation and act accordingly. Plan according to every batsman and try to execute that on the field,” he added.
