England’s fast bowler Jake Ball has been introduced as the cover for injured Chris Woakes.
English bowling all-rounder Woakes had suffered a thigh injury in the first Test match against Pakistan at Lord’s. Woakes suffered a right quad strain which left him with sore quadriceps.
Woakes is also ruled out from the One-off One-day International against Scotland. Furthermore, the 29-year Woakes is also expected to miss the major part of the ODI series against Australia.
Consequently, the England all-rounder has joined Ben Stokes, who suffered a hamstring injury. Stokes also didn’t play in the second Test match at Headingley against Pakistan.
Jake Ball will like to cash in on the opportunity.
Subsequently, England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) confirmed that both Ball and Stokes have started the recovery process.
ECB is hopeful that both of them would be available for the later stage of series against the Kangaroos.
“Both players have commenced their injury rehab programmes and will be hoping to respond to treatment with the aim of featuring in the latter stages of the series,” the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) said on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, Ball last played for England when they thrashed their arch-rivals Australia by 4-1 in latter’s home den.
However, Ball could not find his place in the England Test squad. Consequently, the lanky fast bowler will like to make the most of his opportunity if he is given a go in the playing XI.
England will play a five-match ODI series against Australia. The first match of the bilateral series will be played at Oval on June 13.
Concluding, England will square off against Scotland on June 10.
