India’s strike bowlers Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami are unlikely to play all the upcoming six white-ball games against Australia. With an eye on the four-match Test series, the team management is reportedly set to keep the duo fresh by not putting extra pressure on them during the limited-overs series.

India are starting their two month tour of Australia with three ODIs followed by as many T20 Internationals. The white-ball games will be played between November 27 to December 8 in Sydney and Canberra. A week later, the first of the four-match Test series gets underway in Adelaide.

According to a report in Outlook, the BCCI sources have said that Jasprit Bumrah and Shami’s workload management is paramount for head coach Ravi Shastri and bowling coach Bharath Arun in case Ishant Sharma is not available for the first Test.

Before the start of the Test series, the first warm-up game will be played between December 6-8. However, India’s second and third T20 Internationals will be coinciding with the first warm-up game for the Tests. As per the report, the team-management is not keen on their premier pacers playing in six back to back games in only 12 days.

“If both (Bumrah and Shami) play the T20 Internationals (on Dec 4, 6 and 8), then they will have one warm-up match less which I don’t think the team management will fancy at this moment,” a source said.

Thus, there is a likelihood of Shami and Jasprit Bumrah being rotated during the white-ball series. It should be noted that both the pacers recently spearheaded the pace attacks of their respective teams in the IPL. And with such an important series coming up, injuries to either of them will be the last thing the Indian team-management would want.
