Indian fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah is arguably one of the best fast bowlers and has brought in a fresh breath of air to India’s fast bowling line-up. Jasprit Bumrah emerged in the international scene back in 2016 and troubled Australia with his variations, picking up figures of 10-0-40-2 that gifted India a consolation victory in a forgettable ODI leg of Australia.

Moving forward, the right-arm seamer exhibited his death-bowling skills in white-ball cricket for India as well as in IPL for the Mumbai Indians. Bumrah’s trademark yorkers right at the base of the stumps become quite challenging to negotiate for even for the best of the batsmen. And having made his Test debut in 2018, he has four fifers in 12 Tests thus far.

As he turns 27, we take a look at Jasprit Bumrah’s best performances:

India struggled not only in the initial overs during their five-match ODI tour of Australia in 2015-16 but also the death overs in containing the Australian batsmen. With India being 4-0 down in the series, they brought in Jasprit Bumrah, considering his IPL performances and his ability to deliver yorkers consistently.

And Jasprit Bumrah did respond an excellent bowling performance, bagging figures of 10-0-40-2 as the visitors were able to restrict their opposition to 334, proved as an achievable total eventually. The right-arm seamer claimed the scalps of Steve Smith and James Faulkner and this very outing set the tone for a prolific international career.

Days after his ODI debut, Bumrah also received his maiden T20I cap ahead of India’s three-match T20 series. Once again, Jasprit Bumrah put on a stellar show to give India the competitive edge and a lead in the leg. After India piled on 188 by batting first in Adelaide, the seamers put on a show to seal a 37-run win.

Jasprit Bumrah struck in the sixth over, dismissing David Warner after Australia got to a relatively good start in a steep chase. The wickets in the middle-overs further derailed Australia’s chase. The 27-year old came in the 18th over to dismiss James Faulkner followed by Cameron Boyce in the 20th to deliver a victory. He finished with figures of 3.3-0-23-3.

One year after his ODI debut, Jasprit Bumrah’s five-wicket haul came along against India’s Asian counterparts, Sri Lanka. India lead the five-match ODI series in Sri Lanka by 2-0 and came to Palekelle to seal the same. Bumrah’s five-wicket haul set the match nicely for the visitors as Lahiru Thirimane’s 80 guided them to a below-par 217.

Rohit Sharma came out all guns blazing on Sri Lanka’s bowling as he mustered an unbeaten century while MS Dhoni stayed not out at 67 to take India over the line by six wickets. While Rohit did score a century, Bumrah’s five-wicket haul earned the man of the match, having bagged figures of 10-2-27-5.

Test Hat-trick against the West Indies in 2019:

India had demolished West Indies by a mammoth margin of 318 runs in Antigua. They moved to Kingston in Jamaica intending to seal the series and not only did that but dished out another hammering to the hosts. India won the second Test by 257 runs and Jasprit Bumrah and Hanuma Vihari were it chief architects.

Vihari scored a century that lifted India to 416 and Jasprit Bumrah followed it up with a hattrick alongside a six-wicket haul to skittle the home side for 117. Bumrah’s victims were Darren Bravo, Shamrh Brooks, and Roston Chase – the third wicket coming off a DRS and leaving the West Indies at 13-4 at one stage. Bumrah claimed match figures of 23.1-9-56-7.

In the 2018-19 four-Test series at the MCG, Australia and India arrived with the scores even. It was a crucial toss to win and fell in the visitors’ favour, who elected to bat first, piling up 443 on the back of Cheteshwar Pujara’s century. There were also half-centuries from the debutant Mayank Agarwal, Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma to help their cause.

Following that, it was entirely Jasprit Bumrah’s show as the inexperienced Australian batting line-up was unable to cope with his variations. The hosts could manage only 151 in the first innings as Bumrah claimed six wickets, which were of Marcus Harris, Shaun Marsh, Travis Head, Tim Paine, Nathan Lyon, and Josh Hazlewood. He took three more in the second of Aaron Finch, Shaun Marsh, and Pat Cummins to end with match figures of 34.5-7-88-9 in a winning effort.
