Jhulan Goswami Reckons That Women's IPL Will Be A Big Achievement For The Country

Veteran Indian women’s cricketer Jhulan Goswami has been around for more than a decade now with plenty of experience under her belt. As an experienced cricketer, Jhulan Goswami understands how big a deal a full-fledged women’s IPL would be. The seamer believes that a complete tournament of IPL, featuring only female cricketers would provide plenty of confidence to the younger players, in particular.

India’s impressive performance in the 2020 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup gave rise to the discussions of a potential women’s IPL competition taking place in the near future. While India lost the final to Australia convincingly, none could deny their sensational performance throughout the tournament. The BCCI is seriously considering the same; however, they are content with organising the women’s T20 challenge along with the men’s league.

Jhulan Goswami revealed that she could not wait for the women’s IPL to get underway. She reckons that Women’s IPL would be massive for the country, especially for young cricketers, as they would have the opportunity for sharing the dressing room with some top-notch players.

As far as IPL is concerned, we do wish for the full-fledged tournament to start and we are all waiting for that. Women’s IPL will be a big achievement for the country and for young cricketers as they are going to share the dressing room with top-notch Indian and international talent,” the Bengal-born bowler said as quoted by Times of India.

The 37-year old, who is also the highest wicket-taker in women’s ODIs, believes that age is just a number for professional athletes. It is the passion, hard work and love for the game that keeps us going. She stated that athletes want to stay on the ground as much as they could and reveals enjoying every moment of it.

As a professional athlete, you never think about age. You just go on with your passion, hard work, and love for the game. You just want to be on the ground as much as possible and that is the most satisfying factor for any athlete. And I am just enjoying myself,” she added.
