Kings XI Punjab team-management and the fans must be wondering what was wrong with Jimmy Neesham and Glenn Maxwell during IPL 2020 after their performance for their respective national teams on Sunday.
Both Maxwell and Jimmy Neesham had a disastrous campaign in the recently-concluded season of the IPL in UAE. Neither of the two had managed to live up to the expectations. Maxwell, who was bought for INR 10.75 crore in the previous auction, looked like a pale shadow of his usual self.
Maxwell played in every match except the last league game but managed to score just 108 runs from 11 innings at a paltry average of 15.42 and a dismal strike-rate of 101.88. He failed to hit a single six during the entire competition. But he was back to his best on Sunday when Australia locked horns in the first ODI against India.
He scored 45 off just 19 balls with the help of five fours and three sixes and shared a 57-run stand off just 25 balls with Steve Smith, helping Australia score 374 for 6 and win the game by 66 runs.
Just like Maxwell, Jimmy Neesham had an IPL campaign to forget. The New Zealand allrounder played five games and scored just 19 runs while picking up only two wickets. But on Sunday, he too starred with the bat as New Zealand beat West Indies in the first T20I. He scored an unbeaten 48 off just 24 balls as New Zealand chased down 176 in just 15.2 overs.
Jimmy Neesham’s reaction:
As if the performance from Jimmy Neesham and Glenn Maxwell were not enough to make KXIP fans sad, the New Zealand star rubbed more salt to the wounds with his hilarious reaction on Twitter.
Known for his sense of humour, Jimmy Neesham re-tweeted a hilarious meme from an user who had posted a morphed image of KXIP captain KL Rahul. The user had put Rahul’s face on the famous disappointed Pakistan fan from last year’s World Cup to describe his reaction.
Reacting to it, Neesham tagged Maxwell in his tweet and wrote: “Hahaha that’s actually pretty good.”
