Virat Kohli, Steven Smith, Kane Williamson, and Joe Root are the leading batsmen across all formats of the game in the current era.

Part of the illustrious ‘Fab-4’, Kohli, Smith, Williamson, and Root’s success in all formats of the game is a testimony to their grit, resilience, character, and of-course versatility.

And, so the debate has raged on among fans and former cricketers, as to who is the best among these four ‘once-in-a-generation’ batsman.

Jason Roy, England swashbuckling white-ball opener and a World Cup winner, was asked the same question during a recent interview with Anis Rajan. And, the English opener went on to pick his compatriot Joe Root.

“I have to say one of my good pals Joe Root for sure, he’s an absolute gun.” Jason Roy told CricTracker.

Joe Root is the leading run-scorer in Tests among the Fab-4

Talking about comparisons between the Fab-4, Virat Kohli is head and shoulders above his contemporaries. The Indian captain is the fastest to rack up 10000 runs in ODI cricket and is the second-highest century-maker [43] in the format.

In the shortest format too, Kohli is the highest run-scorer and was the ‘Player of Tournament’ in the last two T20 World Cups.

As far as Test numbers are concerned, Virat Kohli has the most hundreds [27] among the top-4, Steve Smith has the highest average (62.84) while Joe Root has the most number of runs (7599).
