Barbados born, Jofra Archer can be seen playing for England in the next year World Cup of 2019. England can make use of exercising a discretionary clause within their eligibility regulations. It is reported the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) will need to alter their seven-year residence qualification.

Meanwhile, rule three of their playing conditions states, ‘Subject to the overriding discretion of the ECB, acting with the consent of the International Cricket Council.’

Thus, England might overlook their criteria to get Archer on board for the World Cup squad. Consequently, they can adopt methods of other International teams on a case-by-case basis. However, England skipper Eoin Morgan had denied any such reports earlier.

In fact, last year the International Cricket Council (ICC) had reduced the qualification period from four years to three. Thus, Archer who plays for Sussex in the England domestic circuit can be available for selection in the next season.

Meanwhile, Archer has an English father. The lanky Carribean fast bowler had last played for Windies in the Under-19 World Cup in 2013. Furthermore, Archer hasn’t played any domestic cricket for the Windies since the last appearance which was five years ago.

Consequently, ECB can make use of a loophole in their rules to get Jofra Archer in their national team.
