Jofra Archer and Tino Best were engaged in a war of words after a tweet from the former West Indies fast bowler which was directed at him. The first Test between England and Southampton saw Jofra Archer and Mark Wood being picked up ahead of their veteran fast bowler Stuart Broad.

The decision taken by England left fans and cricket fraternity divided. Broad was not happy with the decision either. Tino Best took to Twitter to say that he was surprised on Archer being picked ahead of Broad. Best reckoned that at least Wood at least offered pace but he was particularly surprised with England opting to play with Archer.

Following his tweet, Archer replied to him that, “With all this knowledge how are you not a coach yet?”

Best recalled the Twitter spat and said that the entire scenario was blown out of propotion. He also said that his tweet was directed towards the first innings performance of Archer where he did not put in as much efforts. Best also said that he did not expect Archer to respond him.

“The whole Jofra Archer thing was just blown out of proportion. To be honest, when I tweeted, it was only about the way he was bowling in the first innings. He didn’t put in as much effort as I saw from Mark Wood and Jimmy Anderson. I thought he was just going through the motions a little bit,” Best told Sportskeeda in a live interaction.

“I am here in Barbados, I didn’t expect him to reply. My first tweet was that he was bowling military medium, and that he can bowl faster than that. You’ve got Wood who was absolutely steaming in every ball, and then you’ve got him (Archer) a little lethargic in his approach,” he added.’

In the second innings Archer ran through the top order. However, England were beaten by a consistent performance from the West Indies in Southampton.

Archer was later barred from playing in the second Test for breaking the protocols for a bio-secure environment. He is however cleared to play in the final match.
