Jonathan Trott Appointed England Batting Coach For Pakistan Tests

Jonathan Trott has been named as England batting coach for the Test series against Pakistan. The development was confirmed by the International Cricket Council (ICC) via a tweet. It will be second Test series for England, after cricket returned following a 117-day hiatus due to the novel coronavirus pandemic.

England got their campaign underway after a 2-1 triumph over the West Indies in the last Wisden Trophy. The hosts lost their series opener in Southampton after coming back strongly to beat the Jason Holder-led side in the last two Tests.

Pakistan are set to return to international cricket with their tour to England slated to get underway from August 5. The tour will consist a three-Test series which concludes on August 25 followed by three-match T20I series which will run from 28th to 1st September. It will be second series straight for England after hosting the West Indies in a Test cricket.

Jonathan Trott, who represented England in 127 international matches and scored 6792 runs, has been appointed the team’s batting coach for the three-Test series against Pakistan, the tweet said.

The former right-handed batsman scored at an average over 44 in the longest format of the game. He notched up nine centuries and 19 centuries in the format with the high score of 226.

Trott was also a phenomenon in the ODIs, as he notched up 2819 runs, at an average over 51 with four centuries and 22 half-centuries to his name.

Meanwhile, Younis Khan is the batting coach for Pakistan in this series.
