Australian pace bowler, Josh Hazlewood feels he a ‘big day’ of cricket where he would bowl and spend a lot of time in the field will make him ready for the Test series against India.

India will tour Australia for a full-fledged tour post the conclusion of IPL 2020. The tour comprises of 3 ODIs, 3 T20Is, and a 4 Test match series. The ODIs begin on November 27th in Sydney followed by the T20I series. My wickets come about through patience: Josh Hazlewood

Josh Hazlewood is selected in the limited-overs squad to face India, along with Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins. All three pacers are chosen in the white-ball squad to gain international match practice before the all-important Test series.

Hazlewood is reported saying that while ODI and T20I cricket are shorter versions of the game, there is still high intensity in the game. The pacer said that he would like to have one big day where he spends a lot of time bowling and fielding. He added that the 3-match ODI series will be a good mode of preparation before the Tests as he might be bowling around 30 overs.

According to a report by cricket.com.au, Josh Hazlewood said, “Cricket is cricket and if you’re playing one-day cricket, T20 cricket, at least the intensity is there and it’s about having those big (training) days,” I could probably get away with one big day if that makes sense, where I bowl the best part of 18 or 20 overs in a day and field the whole day. Once you do that, you’re pretty close.”

“Three one-dayers in a week is also a very good marker to see where you’re at – you’re bowling 30 overs at international intensity, you’re fielding 150 overs, you’ve got a bit of travel in there as well. It’s pretty close to a Test match but the back-to-back days bowling and taking those 20 wickets is a different story.

The 29-year-old seamer said that he would love to have the red or the pink ball in his hands. Hazlewood, who is 5 short of 200 Test scalps, believes that in Test cricket, patience is the key to build pressure and that’s how he picks wickets.

“Once you get that red or pink ball in your hand then patience is a big one for me and it’s about building pressure. It’s playing the long game and not getting too impatient with the way I’m bowling, and that’s how my wickets come about – through patience,” he added.
