Former Australian cricketer, Justin Langer, has ruled out the possibility of him taking over the job of Head Coach of Australian cricket team after the retirement of Darren Lehman from the post.

Langer’s name was on the front to take over the job, but he has ruled out the possibility for now, due to the gap of two years which prevails at the moment,

“Honestly I don’t even have to think about it at the moment. It’s two years away. Honestly, I love my job here [in Perth],” he told smh.com.au.

Langer had early performed the role of the Head Coach of Australia against the three-match T20I series against Sri Lanka. At the same time, the Australian team was in India to play the Test series, and a new coaching setup was formed for the three T20I matches.

Langer headed the setup which had a former Aussie skipper, Ricky Ponting as the batting coach and former Aussie bowler, Jason Gillespie as the bowling coach. Australia lost the series by 2-1.

Though Langer has ruled out the possibility, for now, Shane Warne, the bowling legend, has shown interest in taking over the job. Warne was once the highest wicket-taker in the history of Test cricket until Muttiah Muralitharan overtook him to become highest wicket-taker.

The search for the successor of Lehmann is still two years away for the Australian team, and there is a possibility that other former players will also throw their hat in the ring before Lehmann’s term in office comes to an end.

The Australian team will be playing 2019 World Cup and 2019 Ashes series under Lehmann before the former Aussie all-rounder steps down from the post after six years. Lehmann succeeded Mickey Arthur in the job who got sacked before Ashes 2013.
