South African speedster Kagiso Rabada is just in his early teens. However, the impact of the youngster has been so much in a brief of time that he has become the spearhead of the South African bowling attack. It feels that Rabada has been in and around the international circuit for a long time. He has impressed all and sundry with his pace and swing.

Despite having a great couple of years for the national team, he doesn’t consider himself as the spearhead of the attack. He rather enjoys the challenge and responsibility which has been bestowed upon him. Rabada is just a match away from playing his 50th ODI.

“I have not come to grips with the fact that I am the leader,” Rabada said. “I don’t see it that way. Have a responsibility towards the team as the opening bowler. Of all the bowlers, I have got the most experience along with Shamsi. If you look at it that way, we are sort of leading. I don’t see myself as a much of a leader – all I know is that I have got some responsibility. If someone wants help, then I am all out to give that.”

He was not as effective as he would have liked to be in the Test series against Sri Lanka. The pitches didn’t had anything on offer for the faster bowler. However, he was at his impressive best in the opening ODI at Dambulla. He bagged 4 wickets and played a pivotal role in restricting Sri Lanka under 200. He was relieved after moving on from the “sand pits” of the longest format.

Kagiso Rabada feels the Test match pitches were just sand pits

The test match pitches were completely different – they were just sand pits,” Rabada said. “It’s different now because the pitches have good bounce. It’s more like a usual one-day wicket.” The 23-year-old will be spearheading the Proteas attack in the 2019 World Cup. However, he is not looking far ahead. He feels that there is still a substantial amount of time to go for the quadrennial event.

“At the moment it’s too early to think about the World Cup. We are working and thinking about this series,” he said. “That is the priority. You will be working towards the World Cup, and you want to get to a certain level at the World Cup. But right now thinking about how we need to play here.”
