Kamran Akmal became the third Pakistani batsman to score a first-class double hundred in a List A match as he scored 200 off 148 deliveries while playing for WAPDA against HBL at Niaz Stadium of Hyderabad. Akmal is the third Pakistani batsman after Mohammad Ali and Khalid Latif to score a double century in a List A match. Ali scored 207 for Pakistan Customs in Sialkot against DHA while Khalid scored an unbeaten 204 for Karachi against Quetta in 2009.
Akmal’s double hundred was studded with four humongous sixes and consisted 27 boundaries as he helped his team to chase down 315 in the 46th overs losing just three wickets. Akmal completed his double century in just 147 deliveries. However, he was dismissed for the very next delivery as Jamal Anwar stumped him off Zohaib’s delivery.
Akmal is the second fastest Pakistani batsman to complete a double century in a List A match, and he is now the 11th joint fastest batsman to score a double century off 147 equaling the record of legendary Indian batsman Sachin Tendulkar.
Akmal also hit 27 boundaries in his innings which is the most by a Pakistani batsman in a List A match and the sixth most overall.
Akmal has been ignored for Pakistan’s tour of New Zealand despite being the top scorer in the National T20 tournament, scoring 432 runs in eight innings. He also smashed the country’s highest T20 score, 150 during the tournament.
