India U-19 fast bowler Kartik Tyagi who displayed his potential in the U-19 World Cup has credited Suresh Raina for recognising his talent. Tyagi caught the light when he was playing for the U-16 team. He then went on to make his debut in the Ranji trophy at the age of 17 under the captaincy of Suresh Raina.

Tyagi said that he will never be able to forget the contribution Raina has in his career. He also added it was the former India batsman who selected him after watching him play for the U-16 side. Tyagi was consistent in his performance during the U-19 World Cup where India lost in the final against Bangladesh.

“Raina bhaiyya ka jo yogdaan raha hain, hum kabhi bhula nahi payenge (I will never be able to forget Suresh Raina’s contribution in my career). I had played U-16s when I was told to join Ranji Trophy camp. Raina bhaiyya saw me a few days and asked selectors to put me in Ranji Trophy team,” Kartik Tyagi was quoted as saying by PTI.

Tyagi has however made only a single appearance in the Ranji trophy for Uttar Pradesh where he picked up three wickets.

Earlier today, Raina pulled out of the IPL 2020 citing personal reasons. It is now learnt according to a report in Dainik Jagran that his uncle has died following a midnight attack in their Pathankot’s Thariyal village while aunt is critical. The report also mentioned that the attack was carried out on the night of August 19 when the family was sleeping on the terrace of their house.
