Indian cricketer, Karun Nair has been in and out of the national team for a while. Although he is yet to cement his place in the Test team, the batsman has already made a name for himself in his short international career so far.

During 2016, he became only the second Indian ever to score a triple hundred in Tests. He was also quite good whenever given the opportunity.

Although he did not take part in the one-off Test against Afghanistan, Karun Nair feels India will continue to play their style of cricket no matter the opponent.

“We were not looking at who were playing and we were focusing on our brand of cricket. It doesn’t matter who we play or where we play. It is about focusing on how we play as a team. We have to keep that as constant,” Nair told Sportstar.

Karun Nair says he didn’t much chances after scoring a record triple hundred against England later last year.

Meanwhile, India has seen a considerable rise in their performances under the leadership of Virat Kohli over the past three years. Ever since the young Indian skipper took over, the Indian side looked fearless, and their performances eventually made them the top-ranked Test side in the world.

Karun Nair feels if the team plays as a unit then they can beat any side across the world. India has a huge task in their hand when they tour England.

The Indian Test team will feature in five-match Test series which could define the progress of Test team over the past few seasons.

“We have done that (been consistent) for the last few years, and if we can do it, we will stay as No. 1 Test team. Everyone chips in at the right moment and collectively you start performing. We can beat any team on the day,” Nair said.

Nair Believes Afghanistan Will Only Get Better

India gave Afghanistan a lesson in their inaugural Test match. The new entrants could not withstand the wrath of the No.1 Test team, as they bundled out in inside two days.

Still, in early days, Afghanistan should only get better in the future. Even, Karun Nair also expressed the similar sentiment after India’s biggest win in Bengaluru.

“It is a historic moment for them to get Test status and play against India. It is a great thing like the way Afghanistan has made it to Test cricket. They will only get better,” Nair said.

“We have seen how fast they have improved in T20 and ODI cricket. It’s about getting more games under their belt. They will learn from this match,” Nair said.

Karun Nair will now lead India ‘A’ team in England in the near future. If he performs well, he could very well be playing for India in the five-match Test series against England in August.
