Karun Nair, Kings XI Punjab batsman, has heaped high praise on his Karnataka teammate and the current KXIP captain KL Rahul.

KL Rahul has been the bedrock of the Punjab-based franchise in the past two years but the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League will bring a new challenge as he will be leading the side for the very first time.

Nair, who has played a lot with KL Rahul for their state Karnataka feels that the swashbuckling opening batsman is ideal for the job as he feels that Rahul has the ability to inspire people around him with his incredible work ethic.

As you said, I have known Rahul for a long time. All of us have grown up together and we know each other really well. He is someone who loves to be the best of his ability at all times. That is a trait that every leader needs to have. He is someone who likes to push himself and inspires people around him by his work ethics. I am sure he has all the necessary tools to captain us in this year’s IPL,” Karun Nair told timesnownews.com

One of the traits that all great leaders have is the calmness that they have display when they or their team are under the direst of situations. And, Karun Nair feels that KL Rahul does have calm head on his shoulders. He reckoned that the stylish batsman does not get flustered when faced with an intense situation. Nair also reckoned that Rahul’s experience of leading the Indian team in the 5th T20I against New Zealand earlier this year will also help him,

”We will go a long way in the upcoming tournament. In addition, he is generally very calm under pressure and never gets flustered by any hype or intense situation. In the one game that he did captain the international team (during Team India’s bowling in fifth and final T20I versus New Zealand early this year), so all that will help him,” Karun Nair added.

Kings XI Punjab hasn’t won a single IPL title thus far. The closest that they have to come to winning the coveted silverware was way back in 2014 where they lost to Kolkata Knight Riders [KKR] in the finals. Can KL Rahul lead them to their maiden title?
