The proliferation and the subsequent onslaught of the coronavirus has resulted in no cricket being played from the last two months. The world has been on a screeching halt since then and a plethora of efforts are being and several options being mulled to restart the game.

Kevin Pietersen, South African-born England batsman, has reckoned that restarting the game will uplift the morale of the people, who have been gravely distressed with the uncertainty of the current situation.

“Fans, the public, need a morale boost. Their morale at the moment is so negative, so down in the dumps,” the 39-year-old said in an interview with Reuters.

“Sport is so uplifting and so positive for so many people. New sport will have to be played behind closed doors until we find a vaccination for coronavirus. Sportsmen have got to deal with it.” he added.

Sports is gradually beginning to open up with German Bundesliga set to start from May 17, Golfer Rory Mcllroy planning to play a charity game and English Premier League zeroing on a June start, Kevin Pietersen finds it hard to believe that any sportsman wouldn’t want to ply his trade as soon as possible.

He also reckoned that things should be looked at from a broader perspective at this game and for him, the absence of fans in the stadium isn’t an issue as he feels that massive revenue can be generated through television.

“Some sportsmen are in the prime of their life. Why would they not want to be playing? So what if the crowds are not there? The crowds may not be there in person but the broadcasting numbers will be massive.” Kevin Pieterson said.

The formed swashbuckling batsman believes that at this time, it is important for his sport to look at solutions to the problems faced by the rest of the cricket world.

“The nice thing, if you can have a look at something that’s nice about this coronavirus, is it’s affecting absolutely everybody. Virat Kohli is in the same position as Kane Williamson as Joe Root to Steve Smith as Quinton de Kock … we’re all in this together.

He added: “So we’ve all got to come together, understand what’s important to us, work together, get through this together and make good decisions together.”
