Former England batsman Kevin Pietersen mocked Sanjay Manjrekar after Kesrick Williams went unsold in the recently-concluded Indian Premier League (IPL) auction. Just like the previous auctions, the latest auction also threw a number of surprises. While many big names earned hefty deals, there were who failed to attract any bid.
Kesrick Williams was one such player who failed to attract any suitor. The West Indies pacer was expected by many to cause a bidding war in the IPL auction. Prior to the auction, he was all over the news for his duel with Virat Kohli during the T20I series and also dismissed the India skipper once cheaply during the three-match series.
However, there was no bid in the auction for him despite the West Indies star registering himself at a base price of INR 50 lakh. While his teammates like Sheldon Cottrell and Shimron Hetmyer secured hefty deals, Williams was left disappointed. And after the pacer went unsold in the auction, Kevin Pietersen took to Twitter to take a dig at Sanjay Manjrekar.
Kevin Pietersen???s dig at Manjrekar:
It all started when Manjrekar took to Twitter to say that IPL franchises should go for Williams. The former India cricketer said that the West Indies was tailor-made for IPL conditions, writing:
???Go for Kesrick Williams guys. Perfect bowler for IPL conditions.???
Kevin Pietersen noticed that tweet and was quick to reply to it. The England legend disagreed to Manjrekar???s opinion of Williams and said that the latter has got nothing special except his famous notebook celebration.
???Completely disagree. He???s not good enough! He has nothing special apart from his celebration???,??? wrote Kevin Pietersen.
Completely disagree. He???s not good enough! He has nothing special apart from his celebration???
Manjrekar, however, decided against replying to Kevin Pietersen. But Pietersen decided to get under the skin of Manjrekar when the latter praised Nicholas Pooran almost a week after his tweet on Williams. Manjrekar was all praise for Pooran for his fine 89-run knock against India in the third ODI.
Pietersen was then quick to ask Manjrekar about Williams as he took a sly dig at him, writing:
How did Williams go in auction?!
