Rashid Khan, the vice-captain of the Gujarat Titans (GT) won the Player of the Match award as his team defeated Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the 34th match of the ongoing IPL 2022 which was played 2022 at the DY Patil Sports Academy Complex in Navi Mumbai. GT won the toss and chose to bat first, with Hardik Pandya becoming the first captain to choose so.

Pandya returned to the GT XI in place of Vijay Shankar. KKR got in Sam Billings, Tim Southee, and Rinku Singh as Aaron Finch and Pat Cummins were experiencing niggles.

Gujarat Titans batted nicely and were looking good for a total of around 180 runs. Hardik Pandya top-scored with 67 runs in 49 balls with 4 fours and 2 sixes while David Miller made 27 runs. But Tim Southee with 3/24 and Andre Russell picking 4 wickets in the last over, kept the GT final total to 156/9 in 20 overs.

KKR batting did no better than Gujarat Titans and they were reduced to 34/4 until Rinku Singh stemmed the wickets fall with a 35-run knock. At the fag end of the match, Andre Russell upped the hopes of KKR fans as he slammed 48 in 25 balls only, with 6 sixes and one four.

However, he fell in the last over when 18 runs were needed. Before his fall, Rashid Khan, the GT vice-captain bowled extremely well and contained Andre Russell’s big-hitting as well, finishing with figures of 2/222 in his 4 overs.

KKR ended their 20 overs on 148/8 and lost the match by 8 runs. With this win, GT went to the top of the points table in IPL 2022.

Rashid Khan was chosen the Player of the Match for his 2/22 and said: “Definitely it was a great win. The way Hardik batted at the top and took us to 156 was a good total. Shami, Joseph and Yash bowled well and we tried to keep it tight. It is a kind of pressure when you are on 99. Luckily I got those two wickets and I am happy. But bowling economical helps put pressure. The more I bowl to Russell, the better for us. If we keep blocking, that might change momentum. His body doesn’t get used to blocking the ball. So happy to be on the winning side.”

GT will next face SRH on April 27 in Wankhede Stadium, while KKR will face off against DC on April 28 at the same venue.
