India’s limited-overs keeper-batsman KL Rahul has enjoyed a meteoric rise in the last few months. From being on the fringes in India’s white-ball team, KL Rahul has cemented his position as the first-choice keeper and presently holds the vice-captaincy position. Former Indian cricketer Mohammad Kaif underlined that the 28-year old reminds him of Rahul Dravid.
Rahul Dravid was undoubtedly one of the greatest cricketers produced by India. With Rahul Dravid fulfilling the role of batsman and keeper together plenty of times, KL Rahul has become his equivalent. Since MS Dhoni’s sabbatical after the 2019 World Cup and ultimately retirement this year, Virat Kohli has been in search of a competent white-ball keeper-batsman. In this regard, Rahul has done exceptionally well.
Mohammad Kaif underlined that the right-handed batsman reminds him of Rahul Dravid since he is ready to do anything, demonstrating himself as a team player. Kaif highlighted that the Karnataka-born cricketer could also bat at number five and perform beyond expectations.
“KL Rahul reminds me of Rahul Dravid. KL Rahul is ready to do anything, it shows that he is a team-player. If you play me at No.5, then I will do that role for the team,” Kaif stated as quoted by Times Now.
You are on the lookout for players like KL Rahul: Mohammad Kaif
The former Indian batsman added that the 28-year old would keep wickets if required or open for the team. Kaif believes that a team needs players like him who could lay down their life for the side and that only a few are available of that type.
“I will keep it if you ask me to do that. Here you want me to open, I will do that as well. As a captain or team management, you are on the lookout for players like KL Rahul who is ready to lay down his life for the team. There are very few players who come like him,” the 40-year old added.
