Kolkata Knight Riders have called-in United States of America’s 29-year-old prodigiously talented fast bowler Ali Khan as a replacement for the injured English seamer Harry Gurney. Gurney, who has suffered a shoulder injury, is slated to undergo surgery and has subsequently pulled out of both the IPL and the Vitality Blast T20.

Ali Khan’s signing makes him the first-ever USA player to feature in the cash-rich Indian Premier League. Khan is coming back off a triumphant CPL season where his side Trinbago Knight Riders went on to win the title thanks to a 12-match winning streak. The fast bowler featured in the Instagram story posted by his TKR teammate Dwayne Bravo, who captioned it as ‘Next Stop Dubai’.

Ali Khan has impinged himself as one of the most sought after fast bowlers in franchise cricket and that is the testimony of his consistent performances around the world in T20 leagues like the CPL, Global Canada T20, BPL, and PSL. Khan, who claimed eight wickets in as many games in the recently concluded Caribbean Premier League, consistently bowls at 140 clicks and has a very good yorker for the death overs.

Khan was on the radar of Kolkata Knight Riders’s radar last season as well. His big break came in 2018 when Dwayne Bravo spotted him in the Global Canada T20 and brought him to the CPL, where he finished as the second-highest wicket-taker- 16 wickets across 12 matches- in the tournament.
