Kolkata Police Commence Investigation in Mohammed Shami's Case

The Kolkata Police has started their investigation after Mohammed Shami’s wife, Hasin Jahan lodged an FIR, accusing the cricketer of domestic violence, cheating and attempt to murder on her.

The Kolkata Police has written to the BCCI and asked for Team India’s itinerary of the recently concluded tour of South Africa. Shami was in both the Tests and the ODI squad.

Joint Commissioner of Kolkata Police, Praveen Tripathi on Thursday said a case was registered at Kolkata’s Jadhavpur Police Station by a written complaint by the cricketer’s wife, Hasin Jahan.

The charges imposed against Shami are under Section 307 – attempt to murder, Section 323 – punishment for voluntarily causing hurt, Section 376 – rape, Section 506 – criminal intimidation.

Not only him, but four other family members of the cricketer have also been named in the complaint by the police.

The police have specifically asked for the details related to Shami during the tour. The authorities want to determine whether Shami was on the same flight with the other players when they departed from South Africa.

The other enquiries put up by the Police are whether Shami travelled to Dubai with the team or was his trip a separate one. The other question was for how long did Shami stay in Dubai? And was he under BCCI’s guidelines or not?

However, Shami believes even though his wife has complained against him, she should have thought about their daughter before taking such a step.

“All the matter should be solved at home instead of taking it out to the public. It’s embarrassing and humiliating. A small issue has been made big, and all the misunderstandings have created differences between us. For my family, I would do anything; it is my priority. 

“Even though she has lodged an FIR, she could have thought of our child and family first. Nothing is bigger than our child and family. I’m ready to put aside the differences and if she is ready to talk to me.”
