Kumar Sangakkara Congratulates Smriti Mandhana on a World Record Knock

In the recent times, a certain name by Smriti Mandhana has risen above the ranks in women’s cricket. Unlike other women cricketers, Mandhana is a free-flowing batswoman who has the ability to playing the big shots quite brilliantly. She is a natural stroke-maker and makes stroke making looks ridiculously easy at times. Women’s cricket has moved fast and in the right direction. However, Mandhana is a batswoman from a different league. We have not seen too many women batters play shots so effortlessly.

Being a left-hander she is pretty pleasing to the eyes. The stroke maker scripted history when she smashed the fastest T20 in Women’s T20 history. Currently plying her trade for the Western Storms in Kia Super League, Mandhana smashed 18 balls fifty which broke the previous record of Rachael Priest of New Zealand. She made her fifty in 22 deliveries.

Mandhana was at her imperious best. She took on her opposition bowlers from the very first over. The match was curtailed to a 6 overs affair due to persistent showers. Hence the Storms needed to get off to a brisk start. Mandhana provided exactly that. She blazed her way to a sensational half-century in just 18 deliveries.

Her unbeaten knock of 52 of 19 deliveries was studded with 5 fours and 4 sixes. It was quite extraordinary hitting by the stylish left-hander. It was courtesy her brilliant knock that the Storms posted a score of 85.

The target of 86 was always going to be a tough ask for Loughborough Lightning. However, the openers made a good effort but fell 18 runs short in the end. Sophie Devine remained unbeaten on 46 of just 21 deliveries as they finished their allotted 6 overs on 67/0.

Following her classy knock, Mandhana was congratulated by another classical left-handed batsman. Kumar Sangakkara was in all praise for the young women’ sensational. Moreover, he hailed her for the wonderful knock.

“Watching @mandhana_smriti putting bowlers to the sword here at Taunton. She is brilliant to watch. Great ambassador and great skill,” Sangakkara wrote on his Twitter handle.
